Premises Inspection

Who will inspect?

An Environmental Health Officer will inspect a food premise, vehicle or stall to ensure compliance with food hygiene and food standards law.

Under the Food Safety legislation Environmental Health Officers have the right to enter and inspect food premises at all reasonable hours.  They do not have to make an appointment and will usually arrive without notice.

An inspection will be carried out accordingly on the type of business and its previous record.  Some premises maybe inspected every 6 months, others much less often.

Officers of the food safety team routinely carry out routine planned inspections however can also visit due to a consumer complaint.

During the inspection an Environmental Health Officer will:

-        assess how your business operates to include assessing the food management system, structure, layout, cleanliness, temperature monitoring and take food samples for further analysis

-        provide feedback and inform the business operator of any hazards identified and provide advice about how they can be avoided to comply with the law
