Weaning

Weaning Workshop

As part of the ‘Healthy Towns’ Initiative which aims to tackle obesity by improving diet and nutrition, Omagh District Council’s Environmental Health Department is inviting local parents, carers and childminders to attend a weaning workshop at the Council Offices, Mountjoy Rd, Omagh on 8th March from 7-9pm.

Current advice states that babies should be weaned from the age of 6mths. After 6mths, babies will require more iron and nutrients which breast or formula milk cannot provide. Weaning babies too soon may increase the risk of infections, allergies and may lead to obesity later in life.

This workshop will raise your awareness of proper weaning practices to ensure children in your care are receiving adequate nutrition. It will also enable you to advise on proper weaning practices as often parents/carers are confused about when to start weaning and what foodstuffs to use.

This department recognises the strong link between diet and health, and encourages you to attend this workshop which will be good fun and practical in nature.
