Under the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (NI) 1997 (RIDDOR) details of all accidents should be kept in an accident book.
In addition, reportable accidents and occurrences must legally be reported to the Environmental Health Department by the quickest possible means, followed by a written official report within 10 days of the accident using the NI2508 form in the following circumstances:
a) An employee is off more than 3 days as a result of an accident at work
b) A death, major injury or a dangerous occurrence
c) Injuries to member of the public where they are taken from the scene of an accident to hospital
d) A specified occupational disease as certified by a doctor.
