Arts And Cultural Sub Committee

The Arts and Cultural Sub Committee was set up in 2005.  It comprises councillors and voluntary members.  This committee advises on arts and culture policy and development.  It's recommendations go to the Development Committee and then to full council for ratification.

Voluntary members are drawn form the community, by open advertisment. Succesful applicants demonstrate experience in and knowledge of one of the following fields of operation:  Community Arts, Rural Arts, Arts in the Urban Environment, Irish Traditional Music and Dance, Ulster-Scots Language and Culture,  Irish Language, Local History/Heritage .

Criteria for selection

  1. The membership should reflect religious balance.
  2. The membership should have representation from both the urban and rural areas.
  3. The membership should reflect a balance between arts forms.
  4. The membership should include representation from the business sector.
  5. The membership should reflect gender balance.
  6. The membership should have representation from the community arts sector.
  7. Ethnic and minority arts interests should be represented on the committee.
  8. All members should have a demonstrable understanding of and interest in arts development

This committee acts as an advisor to the Council on arts policy and development.
