Omagh Leisure Complex

Omagh Leisure Complex to re-open on 1 July!

The date for the re-opening of Omagh Leisure Complex’s state of the art leisure facility is fast approaching.

On completion of this final phase of refurbishment, the Complex will offer an excellent range of facilities to cater for the residents of Omagh and surrounding areas, providing first-rate opportunities for physical activity.

The much awaited, new facility will offer everyone in the community an opportunity to become more active and improve their health and fitness with access to facilities and equipment the envy of any modern leisure provider in the province.  A comprehensive fitness class and aquatic programme will compliment the new facilities and in addition, local clubs and various sporting bodies that have been widely dispersed throughout the town during the partial closure will be welcomed back to deliver additional programmes and opportunities.

With building work complete, Omagh Leisure Complex has almost doubled in size since it first opened in 1982. The new DEC Fitness Suite, Saunas and Steam Room, the 3G pitch and running track and the outdoor pitches and bowling green, as well as the Galley Cafe are already well used facilities. Customers can now look forward to the addition of the new 25m Swimming pool, 10m Training pool and free-form toddler pool with new viewing gallery and village-style changing facilities, in addition to refurbished sports halls, spinning studio and children’s soft play area.  During the last 18 months, everyone has shown great fortitude while the work was in progress, and it is hoped that their patience will be rewarded by an all-encompassing leisure and health facility which will surpass any similar leisure facility for many miles around.

In the newly designed pool complex, great use has been made of natural light complemented by natural wood resources to create a modern space which really has the ‘Wow factor’. However, the design is practical and functional, with bathing space to suit all ages, all levels of swimming ability and is fully inclusive for disabled or less mobile bathers. The village changing room will be something new to Omagh bathers but is not a new concept to the leisure industry, and is fully embraced within other centres throughout Northern Ireland. Families in particular will welcome this much more inclusive approach.

The emphasis, as always, will be very much on participation for all, and an exciting new range of classes will be scheduled, catering to various levels of physical activity and diversity of interest…everything from Parent and Tot Aquatic Classes to Senior’s Stretch and Tone. The many sports clubs that have faithfully used the facility for years will be welcomed back and the invitation will be there for other sports and local teams to make best use of the facility, with special offers and programmes to be promoted in the near future. Recreation and leisure must, of course, be reasonably priced and new pricing strategies will be in place to ensure the citizens of Omagh are being offered quality programmes and facilities at an affordable rate, with concessions being provided for the more vulnerable in the community. Strong partnerships continue to be forged with Public Health Agency to ensure that Omagh Leisure Complex is playing an important role in providing an accessible and inclusive platform to assist citizens in the district achieve healthier lifestyle goals through a range of programmes and initiatives.
