Community Development
The Development Department has a key role in providing Community Support and enhancing Community Relations in Omagh District Council.
Through their work they seek to enrich and enliven the community spirit within the District. Working in partnership with local groups they contribute to the overall quality of life. The overall aim of Omagh District Council’s Community Support section is:
“To ensure a coordinated, integrated provision of quality support services which meet the needs of the local community to enable their empowerment and participation in area based development. To identify actions and support activities which promote community capacity building, particularly in areas of weak community infrastructure.”
This is achieved through the Community Support Programme which includes the following services:
- Community Support Grant Aid – financial support available to community organizations which provide valued community support services.
- The Provision Of Community Centres – locally based facilities available to address community needs.
- Community Support Officers – providing advice and support to community organizations on a range of issues such as funding, statistical information and assist with project development and funding applications.
- Summer Scheme Provision - a full programme of activities is provided at each of the three council-owned community centres during the month of July. Grant aid is available to rural community groups providing summer schemes throughout the district during the months of July and August.
