There are three grammar schools and five secondary schools in the Omagh District Council area providing post-primary level education to over 5,000 students.

Both the grammar and secondary school sectors within the district have a proud tradition of high achievement of both GCSE and A-level. In the same year, 42% of A-level students achieved passes with A-E grades in 3 or more subjects. Over 67% of school leavers in Omagh progress on to third level education compared to 61% across Northern Ireland as a whole.

Omagh College of Further & Higher Education is the major provider of post-16 training and education in the area, with an enrolment of about 1200 full-time students and trainees, and about 550 part-time registrations. The main campus (which will be fully replaced by a new purpose built building) is in the centre of Omagh with easy transport access. In addition, the College provides tuition onsite to meet the needs of employers and the community sector. The College offers full and part-time courses leading to formal accreditation over a wide range of occupational, vocational and academic disciplines and at all levels, from basic and entry through to Diploma and Degree. It works closely with the University of Ulster and also with the Queens University of Belfast (of which it has been designated a Partner College) and can call on their resources.
