Omagh Heart Town
![]() | ‘Heart Towns’ is an initiative of the British Heart Foundation to mobilise communities to raise awareness of heart and circulatory disease and raise funds for research into how the heart might heal itself. |
In February 2011 Omagh became one of only two ‘Heart Towns’ in Northern Ireland. The aim of the initiative is to raise awareness of heart disease, provide support on how to combat it and develop a healthier lifestyle and, at the same time raise funds for the British Heart Foundation’s ‘Mending Broken Hearts’ appeal.
Through the ‘Heart Towns’ initiative there will be a concentrated effort to highlight the toll which heart and circulatory disease has on our community and BHF Northern Ireland can provide a wide range of support services including schools initiatives, workplace health and lifestyle information resources.
An important aspect of Omagh Heart Town is to raise funds for the ‘Mending Broken Hearts’ appeal. This is to fund research to repair damaged hearts and over the next 10 years learn how the heart might heal itself.
