Twinning

Omagh District Council is twinned with L’Hay les Roses, a town in the southern suburbs of Paris, not far from the péripherique ring road around the city. The twinning agreement was signed in 1996, and since then there have been many projects and exchanges between groups in both communities who share an interest in sports, education, culture and the arts.

In 2000 Drumquin established a twinning link with a small town, Pont Rémy, in Normandy in northern France, and in 2004 Gortin established a similar link with St. Drézèry in the south of France.

Omagh Twinning Forum was established in 2005 from the previous Twinning Committee established in 1996 which was set up when the twinning charter with L’Hay les Roses was signed. The Twinning Forum comprises councillors from all Parties, as well as representation from the business, sports, arts and cultural and youth sectors of the local community. The aims of the Twinning Forum are

  • To develop, promote and co-ordinate understanding and friendship between the people of Omagh District and the people of twinned communities and
  • To encourage projects and visits between them.

Omagh Twinning Forum meets every two months to identify and progress twinning projects and initiatives and exchanges.
