Committee Structure
Council business is conducted via a committee system. In order to assist in the development of a more effective business management approach to the operation of Council business, the committee system was reviewed and modernised in January 2002.
There are currently 4 Standing Committees: Development, Environmental Services, Planning & Public Services Liaison and Policy & Resources which meet every month. The reports of these meetings are considered and ratified by the full Council which meets on the first Tuesday of each month. This means, for example, that reports of the January Committee meetings are considered at the February Council meeting. All minutes should, therefore, be read in conjunction with the corresponding minutes of the full Council meeting.
The Health Care Committee is known as an Additional Main Committee and reports directly to the full Council. In addition, there is a range of sub-committees and working groups which deal with specific issues and which report to the Council through the relevant parent Committee.
